We were able to sit down and talk with Valery Veings guitarist of Swiss nu-metalcore band Chaoseum. It was great to talk with him and gain some insight on his musical upbringing as well as get some information on the band. They have taken a classic and loved nu-metal sound and fused with the metalcore tone that is desired by so many bands today.

Spencer Davis: “Who first inspired you to become a musician?”
Valery Veings: “When I was 15, I saw Iron Maiden on TV and I often watched the Live After Death. After that I knew that I wanted to learn guitar.”
SD: “How would you describe the music you create?”
VV: “On our first album, we had a female vocalist and the songs are somewhere between heavy and metalcore style. On our new album, “Second Life” we are closer to Nu-metalcore.”
SD: “Who is one artist you would love to collaborate with?”
VV: “I would like to write a solo album with Desmond Child, but he’s busy writing Alice
Cooper’s album…”
SD: “What’s your favorite album of all time?”
VV: “Only one… New Jersey by Bon Jovi.”
SD: “If you could open for any artist, who would it be and why?”
VV: “Personally, Iron Maiden of course, it’s a dream. But, bands like Korn, Slipknot, Trivium or Bullet For My Valentine would be perfect with our new album. I also would like one
more time on tour with Tarja. She and all the guys in the bands are really fantastic people.”
SD: “What are your favorite and least favorite venues?”
VV: “In our country, we have two incredible venues that I love. LesDocks in Lausanne where we recorded our live album and my favorite Swiss venue, Z7 near Basel. We played at January 19th Whisky à GoGo, that was an emotional gig. In Russia, we also played in some beautiful venues. But my favorite, I don’t know, maybe Z7.”
SD: “What does your songwriting process look like?”
VV: “Loïc write the main musical melody with our singer. CK and I write the lyrics and together we make the arrangement.”
SD: “What’s coming up next for the band?”
VV: “Our European tour was postponed to the fall of 2021. Now we are going to release some videos for YouTube and start to write new songs.”
